The role of physiotherapy for TMD management.

Masterclass

In the multidisciplinary management of patients with temporomandibular disorders (TMDs), physiotherapy has a great contribution. During this interactive master class, the clinical features of the most common TMDs will be described in details. Moreover, TMD management will be presented with emphasis on the theoretical and practical assessment and treatment of TMD from a specialized physiotherapist. In addition, live demonstration of techniques used in order to decrease pain and increase function of the temporomandibular joints and the masticatory muscles will take place.

Participants will be able to acquire theoretical and practical knowledge about the role of specialized physiotherapy in TMD management.

Ο Μιχάλης Κούτρης είναι απόφοιτοςτης Οδοντιατρικής Σχολής του Εθνικού και Καποδιστριακού Πανεπιστημίου Αθηνών.Το 2007 ολοκλήρωσε το τριετές μεταπτυχιακό πρόγραμμα εξειδίκευσης στον τομέα Oral Kinesiology στην Οδοντιατρική Σχολή ACTA του Πανεπιστημίου του Άμστερνταμ από όπου έλαβε και τον διδακτορικό τίτλο το 2013. Σήμερα μοιράζει το χρόνο του μεταξύ Ελλάδας και Ολλανδίας.

Στην Ολλανδία είναι μόνιμος επίκουρος καθηγητής στο τμήμα Oral Kinesiology της Οδοντιατρικής Σχολής του Πανεπιστημίου του Άμστερνταμ (ACTA), κλινικός συνεργάτης του τμήματος Νοσοκομειακής Οδοντιατρικής του Γναθοχειρουργικού Τμήματος της Ιατρικής Σχολής του Πανεπιστημίου του Άμστερνταμ (AMC) και στην Ελλάδα διατηρεί ιδιωτικό ιατρείο και είναι επιστημονικός συνεργάτης της Κλινικής Αντιμετώπισης Στοματοπροσωπικού Πόνου της Οδοντιατρικής Σχολής του ΕΚΠΑ. Είναι μέλος του Ολλανδικού Συλλόγου Γναθολόγων (NVGPT), της Διεθνούς Εταιρίας Αντιμετώπισης Πόνου (IASP), της Διεθνούς Ομοσπονδίας για την Έρευνα στην Οδοντιατρική (IADR), μέλος του διοικητικού συμβουλίου της Ελληνικής Εταιρίας Στοματοπροσωπικού Πόνου και Εθνικός Αντιπρόσωπος της Ελλάδας στην Ευρωπαϊκή Ακαδημία Κρανιογναθικών Διαταραχών (EACD).

Είναι ιδρυτικό μέλος και πρόεδρος της επιστημονικής επιτροπής της Ευρωπαϊκής Ακαδημίας Στοματοπροσωπικού πόνου (EAOPD).

Από το 2016 είναι γραμματέας και ταμίας του Διεθνούς Δικτύου Στοματοπροσωπικού Πόνου (INfORM group, IADR). Το ερευνητικό του έργο έχει βραβευτεί τόσο στην Ολλανδία όσο και διεθνώς.

Συμμετέχει με δημοσιεύσεις σε επιστημονικά περιοδικά και με επιστημονικές εργασίες σε συνέδρια τόσο στην Ελλάδα όσο και στο εξωτερικό.

Dr. Visscher Corine

Lecturer’s Bio

Dr. Corine M. Visscher is a physical therapist and epidemiologist. She holds a position as associate professor at the Academic Centre of Dentistry Amsterdam (ACTA), and is currently chair of the department of Oral Kinesiology. Her research and clinical interests have focused on chronic pain patients and TMD diagnostics. At the ACTA, she works in a multidisciplinary team, that consists of specialized dentists, physical therapists and a psychologist. She graduated in 1994 as a physical therapist at Polytechnics Amsterdam, Faculty of Healthcare, Department of Physical Therapy. In 2000, she obtained her PhD at the University of Amsterdam, the Netherlands. In 2005, she received her Master degree in Epidemiology at the VU University Medical Center in Amsterdam.
Dr. Visscher published over 50 papers in peer-reviewed international journals such as Pain, Clinical Journal of Pain, European Journal of Oral Science, and Journal of Orofacial Pain. She is one of the authors of the latest edition of the guidelines of the American Academy of Orofacial Pain (AAOP), and a member of the Physical Therapy Board of Craniofacial and Cervical Therapeutics (PTBCCT). In addition, she was involved in the International Consensus Workshop that recently introduced the Diagnostic Criteria for TMD (DC/TMD). Her latest research concerns a twin-study to the genetic aspects of chronic pain, with special interest in musculoskeletal pain complaints.
