Modern 3D technology with Guided Surgery in implant-dentistry: the reliable way for a prosthodontics driven backwards-plan
Masterclass
Traditional concepts for pre-implant bone-augmentation are based on clinical, cast-model and imaging analysis; the latter mainly addressed 2D-imaging or selected 2D images from a 3D-dataset. Modern planning includes a backwards planned prosthodontic-driven workflow, which in the end can be handled completely digital if modern scanning techniques are included.
The sophisticated Guide System allows streamlining all these modern aspects into a computer-assisted drill guide, which allows highest precision to transport the preplanning information into the clinical treatment.
The intention of these lectures are not only to describe the workflow but as well to demonstrate the advantages that
result from an implementation of 3D information: new donor sites and management concepts arise including anatomically
shaped grafts and a reduced donor site morbidity; by following this approach the amount of bone-graft size and volume has been drastically reduced, the percentage of general anesthesia needed has been significantly decreased, bone grafts from the iliac crest are not anymore the standard but more the exception; furthermore a dimensional problem is approached by solving it within the same quadrant – and there has to be patient-specific evidence, if this goal cannot be met.
Beneficial results to the patient are a biologically adequate concept that tries to completely rely on an autogenous treatment protocol. Even extruded implants can be patient-specifically manufactured as CAD/CAM implants, if needed, so that even utmost difficult situations of dento-alveolar rehabilitated post-tumor and post- trauma can be managed.
The key to success i.e. to realize all the above mentioned advantages is the implementation of a server based software platform for pre-implant planning procedures.
