MINIMAL INVASIVE SINUS LIFT SURGERY
Workshop
Minimal invasive techniques spread to all areas of medicine. One of the main techniques in minimal invasive surgery is the use of endoscopic technology.
The use of endoscopy in oral and maxillofacial surgery is now considered the state of the artas it almost spans the full scope of the discipline.
There are 2 main techniques which we will present in our lecture :
- Endoscopic techniques to assist in dental implantology, mainly for endoscopic sinus lift, preparation site surgery and for navigation surgery. The endoscopic implantology open a new horizon for accurate procedures and help the practitioner for better understanding and better success rate with minimal morbidity.
- Another method which we will present in our lecture is unique implant which we design for augmentation procedures. High demand for minimally invasive procedures led us to invent the implant for a one-stage transcrestal augmentation of the sinus and implant placement. This dynamic implant valve approach (DIVA) consists of an implant with an inner sealing screw, which facilitates and expedites the closed sinus lift procedure. This system was tested in vitro, and later its feasibility was tested in a large animal model (swine), the testing revealed that the DIVA can be successfully used for augmentation procedures, especially of the maxillary sinus, as well as for intra- or post-operative delivery of therapeutic agents, and in combination with dental endoscope for direct vision during the procedure. In 211 cases (96.8%), the implantation was totally successful both from objective CBCT clinical and subjective patients' viewpoints.
Our experience during the last 4 years using these new techniques, indications, advantages and disadvantages will be presented in details.

Prof. Oded Nahlieli graduated the Hebrew University Hadassah School of Dental medicine in Jerusalem. He completed his Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery residency in Israel; residency during 1988 1989, in the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Department in Massachusetts General Hospital Boston USA.
Prof. Nahlieli is the chairman of the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the Barzilai University Medical Center Ashkelon, Israel, Professor, Faculty of Medicine Ben Gurion University of the Negev and Affiliated Professor School of Dentistry, Michigan University, Michigan, USA, and Adjunct Associate Professor of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Eastman Institute for Oral Health University of Rochester , Rochester NY USA
Since 1993 Prof. Nahlieli began developing the practice of Endoscopy of the salivary glands (Sialoendoscopy) and was one of the pioneers in the field. He has extensive experience in salivary gland endoscopy.
He developed a series of endoscopes techniques and specific equipments for minimal invasive procedures in implant dentistry and medicine. He has lectured extensively on his specialty in Europe, Asia, Middle East and North America. Prof. Oded Nahlieli has written more than 100 articles 10 chapters 2 books and obtained 25 patents, published in the international literature. His articles on Sialoendoscopy and minimal invasive implantology are considered keystones in the modern management of salivary glands inflammatory disorders and dental implantology.
