Dr. Corine M. Visscher is a physical therapist and epidemiologist. She holds a position as associate professor at the Academic Centre of Dentistry Amsterdam (ACTA), and is currently chair of the department of Oral Kinesiology. Her research and clinical interests have focused on chronic pain patients and TMD diagnostics. At the ACTA, she works in a multidisciplinary team, that consists of specialized dentists, physical therapists and a psychologist. She graduated in 1994 as a physical therapist at Polytechnics Amsterdam, Faculty of Healthcare, Department of Physical Therapy. In 2000, she obtained her PhD at the University of Amsterdam, the Netherlands. In 2005, she received her Master degree in Epidemiology at the VU University Medical Center in Amsterdam.
Dr. Visscher published over 50 papers in peer-reviewed international journals such as Pain, Clinical Journal of Pain, European Journal of Oral Science, and Journal of Orofacial Pain. She is one of the authors of the latest edition of the guidelines of the American Academy of Orofacial Pain (AAOP), and a member of the Physical Therapy Board of Craniofacial and Cervical Therapeutics (PTBCCT). In addition, she was involved in the International Consensus Workshop that recently introduced the Diagnostic Criteria for TMD (DC/TMD). Her latest research concerns a twin-study to the genetic aspects of chronic pain, with special interest in musculoskeletal pain complaints.
